This course provides the pre-service English teachers with the principles, methods, and approaches of translation and adaptation of various literary and non-literary texts. It provides them exercises that require them to translate and adapt texts from one language to another (i.e. English to Filipino to Mother Tongue). Consequently, they will be able to demonstrate content knowledge and application of translation skills in providing contextualized materials that develop their learners’ critical, creative, and other higher order thinking skills
Developmental Reading is a course is designed to help the struggling reader develop mastery in the areas of reading comprehension, vocabulary building, study skills, and media literacy, which are the course's primary content strands. Using these strands, the course guides the student through the skills necessary to be successful in the academic world and beyond. The reading comprehension strand focuses on introducing the student to the varied purposes of reading (e.g., for entertainment, for information, to complete a task, or to analyze). In the vocabulary strand, the student learns specific strategies for understanding and remembering new vocabulary. Ang kursong ito ay tumatalakay sa pag-aaral ng mga prinsipyo ng pagpapahalaga sa mga akdang pampanitikan, teoryang pangkritisismo, mga hakbang at pamantayan sa pagpapahalaga na makatutulong tungo sa malalim na pang-unawa at pagbibigay-halaga sa isang obra ng mga manunulat sa Filipino. Sumasaklaw rin ito sa pahambing na pag-aaral ng mga piling akda mula sa mga umuunlad na bansa na isinalin sa Filipino.
