This course provides an introduction to the field of data communications and computer networks. The course covers the principles of data communications, fundamentals of data signaling, basic transmission concepts, transmission media, circuit control, line sharing techniques, physical and data link layer protocols, error detection and correction, data compression, common carrier services and data networks.
Student will master the fundamentals of data communications network by gaining a working knowledge of data transmission concepts, understanding the operation of physical and data link protocols, learning network performance techniques, and understanding the concepts and operation of local and IP-based networks.
