deals on the scope, purpose and objectives of criminology. It covers the
theories in determining criminal tendencies and the factors that causes crime,
as well as social disorganization in delinquent areas. It is also a subject
designed to orient students on the nature of criminology as a profession;
primarily focused on the study of crimes and criminals as two of its primordial
objects of interests, criminal behavior and the adverse effects of crime in the
society. It also serves as a premise towards a more comprehensive study of
juvenile delinquency, criminalistics, criminal investigation, the criminal
justice system, criminal jurisprudence and corrections.

This course presents an overview of the different schools of thought in criminology, theories that explain criminal behavior; techniques for measuring the characteristics of criminal, crime, and victims; the interrelatedness of theory, policy and practice in the criminal justice system; and current issues and studies in criminology.
